Here's an interesting article. Looks like there is a trend toward open archives. I think this is a good thing - not sure we want all of our information needs to be met exclusively through Google!

I'm damned if I can even remember exactly what that was about. At any rate, I can't find it again. Too bad. As partial compensation, I offer this link to an online scolarly research portal. Should maybe go in another thread, but what the hey.

Oh, and open archives are what happen when knowledge-producing institutions decide to make some of the knowledge they produce freely available over the Internet. MIT is big into it, as are some other forward-thinking american universities.
